Downtown Tyler is on the brink of a transformative period, with significant investments and strategic plans set to enhance the heart of our city. As a local business deeply rooted in this community, Tyler Ten is excited to share the latest developments that promise to invigorate our downtown area.

City and County Collaborate on Downtown Design Plan

In a historic joint meeting on September 20, 2023, the Tyler City Council and Smith County Commissioners Court approved a comprehensive design plan for downtown Tyler. Crafted by Fitzpatrick Architects, this plan aims to bolster economic development, attract tourism, and elevate the quality of life for residents. Key features include:

  • Expanded Green Spaces: Introduction of lush areas for relaxation and community events.

  • Enhanced Walkability: Wider sidewalks to promote pedestrian movement and outdoor dining.

  • Amphitheater Construction: A multi-use structure designed for performances and gatherings.

  • Traffic Flow Improvements: Implementation of traffic circles and lane adjustments to streamline vehicular movement.

These enhancements are set to create a more inviting and functional downtown environment, fostering a vibrant community hub.

Significant Investments in Infrastructure and Public Safety

The fiscal year 2025 budget reflects a strong commitment to the city's core needs, with a total allocation of $255.9 million. Notable investments include:

  • Water and Sewer Systems: $50 million dedicated to upgrading essential infrastructure.

  • Public Safety: $37.9 million for the Police Department and $25.8 million for the Fire Department to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens.

  • Downtown Redevelopment: $25.7 million earmarked over three years to revitalize the downtown area, with $10.3 million allocated for the initial phase starting in January 2025.

These strategic investments underscore the city's dedication to sustainable growth and enhanced public services.

Community Engagement and Future Prospects

The city has actively sought community input through initiatives like the Half Cent Sales Tax Call for Projects, inviting residents to propose ideas for public improvement projects. This collaborative approach ensures that developments align with the community's vision and needs.

Read the 5-Star Reviews from verified clients across East Texas. Harry Magness “Norman and his son did an excellent job clearing land for our pasture. I was pleased with the results, including clean up.” Anne Stone “Norman and his team completed the work, including cleaning up after demolition. They were professional and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended.” Jake R “Good communication.” Danny Black “Norman did what good contractors should do: Be prompt, keep affected people informed, respect adjoining property and do what he says he’s going to do. Very clean and professional job for reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend him.” JD Wilson “Norman did a great job taking down a house for me and did it quickly. I was mostly impressed with how clean the jobsite was left at the end, because as a general contractor, I’ve seen many jobs left a mess at the end. I would recommend Norman to anyone asking for help with their project.” Bobby Watkins “Norman and his son did a great job demolishing our storage building that was damaged in recent storms.” Carla Swanson “We needed someone to clean up our barn after it was destroyed by a storm. Norman was quick to come out and give us a quote. He communicated well with us and was very respectful and careful. Happy customer!” Laura Livingston “I used Tyler Ten to demolish an abandoned building on a property I purchased. I would absolutely use their service again. Great communication, fair pricing and job completed as proposed.” Allan Hukill “Great service, great price, great response time. I am a very satisfied customer.” Joaquin Ortiz “Great to work with. Had some clean up to do and they had the equipment to facilitate that. Very thankful — Norman has got you covered.” I.D. Walker “WOW! What an experience. I wish all my subs operated the way Norm and his sons do. Showed up on time for the project review, provided his quote for services, provided a start and completion date at this initial meeting — and then HE DID EXACTLY WHAT HE PROMISED TO DO. Hauled away all the trash and left the jobsite spotless. I’ve had them back for more work with the same results. On a scale of 1-10, I rate the father and son team a 20.” Waylon Fulton “Great communication and great price. Very easy to do business with and I will definitely use them in the future.” John Blanton “They brought down a two-story garage apartment and attached storage shed that was in close proximity to another garage. Everything went as planned with no problems. Did an excellent job removing all the debris and made leveling the site a breeze. Very pleased with the results. Good job.” Randy Miller “This company did an excellent job. Very good communication from start to finish. All anyone can ask for, straight up the whole job.”
